As I have travelled through France and explored other parts of Europe, I have found myself noticing much more than famous architecture, fascinating history or incredible food. I notice the parks where families gather. I notice the cafés where people slow down, enjoy a meal and spend time in conversation. I notice the gardens that invite people to sit, reflect and reconnect.

I notice the walkability, public art, historic streets, local businesses and cultural spaces that make community life feel vibrant and meaningful.

The Tom Taylor Trail is one of Newmarket’s best-known outdoor features. It runs through the centre of town along the Holland River and forms part of the wider regional Nokiidaa Trail network.

Mulock Park: A New Gathering Place for Newmarket

One of the most exciting developments in our community is Mulock Park.

Created with extensive community input, the park has been envisioned as a four-season destination designed around culture, nature, recreation and connection. According to the Town of Newmarket, the opening is planned for late summer 2026.

Planned features include paths, public art, water features, event space, a winter skate trail, a greenhouse conservatory and an artist studio. The historic Mulock House will also be reimagined with community and cultural spaces, including the Chickadee Café, operated by Newmarket-based A Million Mouthfuls Catering.

What excites me most about Mulock Park is not simply the list of features. It is the intention behind the space.

Beautiful public spaces can encourage spontaneous conversations, family outings, cultural experiences and community pride. When thoughtfully planned, a park can become part of a community’s identity.
